TOWN OF BROOKHAVEN: Councilman LaValle Thanks Macy’s Smith Haven Mall for Donation of 1800 Prom Dresses

Meeting 08

Town of Brookhaven issued the following announcement on Oct. 29.

In the spring of 2021, high school students will be preparing for the prom, and although it will be different because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a beautiful gown is still a necessity. On October 27, Councilman Kevin LaValle (left) visited Macy’s Smith Haven Mall to present a Certificate of Appreciation to Macy’s associates Arlene Famoso, Personal Stylist (center) and Michelle Mastermaker, Director of Operations and Visual Merchandising (right) to thank them for a generous donation of 1800 new prom gowns.

Councilman LaValle said, “There are some retailers that come through every time we ask for help, and Macy’s Smith Haven Mall is one of them. Times are tough for many families and a prom gown is a big expense. Thanks to Macy’s, we can help make the Prom a very special event for many high school students this year.”

Ms. Mastermaker said, “At Macy's, giving back is in our DNA and we want to create as much positive impact as possible in our community. When our communities are hurting, Macy's shows up. With creativity and compassion, our stores team up with organizations to find the best way to respond to each situation. We were excited to partner with the Town of Brookhaven again, and be able to donate over 1800 prom gowns to support the Town of Brookhaven's Prom Dress Boutique.”

The Youth Bureau Prom Boutique offers qualifying students a selection of new and gently used gowns, handbags and costume jewelry, as well as make up and fragrances, all of which are theirs to keep. Young ladies who qualify for assistance will be dressed from head to toe, helping to make their prom dreams come true. This service is free of charge and kept strictly confidential.
