WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) addressed the House to express his concern over the increasing incidents of antisemitism on college campuses in the United States. LaLota highlighted the troubling trend that has emerged since the terrorist attack carried out by Hamas on October 7th.
"Since October 7th, America has seen a demonstrable rise in antisemitism on college campuses, where students have been harassed and even assaulted simply for being Jewish," stated LaLota during his speech. He further emphasized his commitment to combating antisemitism by cosponsoring various pieces of legislation aimed at supporting Israel, holding Hamas and Iran accountable, and condemning antisemitism, including the Antisemitism Awareness Act.
"I’m proud to cosponsor several pieces of legislation to support Israel, hold Hamas and Iran accountable, and condemn antisemitism, including the Antisemitism Awareness Act. In America, every student should be free to live and learn, without fear of harassment or physical violence. Our universities, and our nation, must do better," LaLota asserted.
The congressman's call to action underscored the importance of creating safe and inclusive environments for all students on college campuses, free from discrimination and violence. LaLota's speech serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to address and combat antisemitism in all its forms.
