He highlighted the crucial role DSPs play in providing care for vulnerable individuals, stating, "Direct support professionals (DSP) are some of the most dedicated and caring workers who help with several levels of daily care for the most vulnerable individuals."
Recognizing the demanding nature of their work, Flood stressed the significance of aligning DSP pay with the cost of living and the level of care they offer to individuals with disabilities. He pointed out that many DSPs work multiple jobs to support their families while maintaining their commitment to the unique community they serve.
Expressing empathy for the challenges faced by individuals when their caretakers leave, Flood remarked, "It is a heartbreak when the individuals find that their caretakers have left and have to rebuild that trust again." Despite these difficulties, Flood commended DSPs for their unwavering dedication, thanking them for their sincere efforts.
Looking ahead, Flood pledged to continue working alongside his colleagues to secure increased funding for fair wages for DSPs in the upcoming state budget. He urged others to support this cause, stating, "Join their call. #InvestInMe."
