WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) has voted in favor of the bipartisan Passport System Reform and Backlog Prevention Act, a bill he cosponsored, aimed at modernizing the passport process and preventing backlogs. LaLota emphasized his commitment to addressing passport issues and delays, stating, "Since taking office, addressing passport issues and delays has been a primary focus for my casework team in our Hauppauge office. We've dedicated ourselves to relieving Long Islanders of unnecessary burdens caused by federal bureaucracy."

The bill, H.R. 6610, seeks to reduce processing times for passports by deploying various tools to address backlogs and enhance the processing capabilities of the State Department Bureau of Consular Affairs. LaLota expressed optimism about the potential impact of the legislation, asserting, "The Passport System Reform and Backlog Prevention Act represents significant progress in tackling the backlog and reducing bureaucratic hurdles."

LaLota's constituent services team in Hauppauge has successfully completed over 800 passport cases for Suffolk County residents, highlighting the congressman's dedication to assisting his constituents with passport-related issues. The Passport System Reform and Backlog Prevention Act includes provisions such as the expansion of the Online Passport Renewal system, the implementation of a text and email notification system for application status, and the acceleration of the passport renewal process through increased use of software in passport adjudication.

In addition, the bill mandates a thorough review of the passport issuance system by the Government Accountability Office, promotes collaboration with the private sector to adopt technology solutions, and enhances congressional oversight over State Department modernization efforts. LaLota affirmed his team's ongoing commitment to empowering individuals and ensuring that the government serves them effectively, stating, "My team and I remain committed to empowering individuals by ensuring government serves them, not impedes them."
