Assemblywoman Giglio from Long Island’s 2nd Assembly District has responded to the Governor's State of the State Address held on January 10, 2023.
Giglio expressed her commitment to proposing legislation that directly benefits New Yorkers, stating, "Since I began serving as the Assemblywoman for Long Island’s 2nd Assembly District, I have been and continue to be solution-oriented and focused on proposing legislation that will directly help New Yorkers."
Regarding the governor's promises of change, Giglio emphasized the need for self-reliance, saying, "The governor tells us she’s offering real change, and I hope she is. We need less people with their hands out." She also highlighted the necessity of altering the state's spending and investment practices to restore New York's status as the Empire State, stating, "To make New York the Empire State again, we’ll need to change our mindset about spending and investment."
Giglio expressed optimism about the governor's plans for mental health care improvements and support for addiction services but stressed the importance of childcare support for families to return to work, stating, "However, our families also need support for childcare so they can return to their livelihoods." She called for incentives for businesses to provide on-site childcare at reduced prices and advocated for proper training for childcare workers to make this possible, hoping for results in the 2023 Legislative Session.
In conclusion, Giglio expressed confidence that by working together, New York can recover from the effects of the pandemic and become an attractive destination for residents, saying, "Together, we’ll get New York back on its feet and finally emerge into a new era after the pandemic to make our state a place that people want to move to, instead of from."
