Stony Brook University Hospital and Stony Brook Southampton Hospital have been awarded an 'A' grade for hospital safety by The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization that evaluates hospitals across the United States on patient safety measures. This recognition places both hospitals among the safest in the nation.
William A. Wertheim, Executive Vice President for Stony Brook Medicine, commented on the achievement: “These ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group validate our commitment to delivering the highest standard of safe, quality care.” He emphasized that this recognition is a reflection of the healthcare team's dedication to patient safety.
Carol Gomes, CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital, also expressed pride in their team’s efforts: “This top mark is a testament to the dedication of every Stony Brook professional to go above and beyond to protect patient safety.”
Stony Brook Southampton Hospital has received an 'A' grade for two consecutive years, making it one of only 17 hospitals in New York State with such a distinction. Emily Mastaler, Chief Administrative Officer at SBSH, stated: “We are honored to have again earned the nation’s top distinction for patient safety."
Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, praised both hospitals: “Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade is a significant accomplishment... It reflects enormous dedication to your patients and their families.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade program focuses exclusively on preventable medical errors and injuries. It updates its ratings twice annually and offers free access to these evaluations.
