Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney has announced the indictment of Tavion Elting, an 18-year-old from East Patchogue, on felony weapons charges. The charges stem from an incident at the Smith Haven Mall, where a loaded pistol was allegedly found in Elting's possession during a brawl in the food court. The altercation occurred on Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

District Attorney Tierney commented on the seriousness of the situation: "A loose loaded gun and a hot-tempered brawl in crowded mall on Black Friday - this incident was just one breath away from becoming a total nightmare." He further stated that they would seek a prosecution outcome that reflects the potential severity of the incident to deter similar actions in the future.
