Eighth-grade students from William Floyd Middle School and William Paca Middle School recently visited the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at William Floyd High School. These visits, organized by school counselors Allison Ravener and Caroline Reed, provided students with an insight into future opportunities available in high school.
During their visit, students were grouped according to their CTE program interests and paired with current CTE students who acted as mentors. This arrangement allowed the eighth graders to gain hands-on experience in various programs offered by the high school.
Alexandria Shea, a student from William Floyd Middle School, expressed her interest in the Medical Assisting program. "I would love to be a part of the Medical Assisting program because there are many benefits for college and my future career goal within the medical field," she said. She also appreciated the friendships formed through the CTE program.
Another student, Mia Cartelami, participated in the Culinary Arts program where she helped make brownies from scratch. "This program gave me motivation and purpose to continue to strive toward high grades and obtain important life skills such as cooking," she shared.
The CTE program at William Floyd High School offers eight academy-style learning pathways aimed at preparing students for both careers and college. These include Automotive, Barbering, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Home Design & Carpentry (with electrical and plumbing), Medical Assisting, Marine & Motorsports, and Personal Training & Nutrition.
William Paca Middle School's eighth-grade students also visited programs like Personal Training & Nutrition during their trip to William Floyd High School.
