Throughout the school year, students from William Floyd High School have been involved in a buddy program with students from John S. Hobart Elementary School. The high school participants, part of Mrs. Lauren Heuer’s School to Work class, visit the elementary students monthly for collaborative projects and activities.

These sessions aim to help both groups form new friendships while engaging in educational activities. In January, high schoolers led a snowmaking science experiment, followed by a celebration of the 100th day of school in February with a visit from Kopa, Mr. and Mrs. Zelin’s therapy dog. March's activity involved creating St. Patrick’s Day-themed sun catchers.

The program is designed to enhance leadership skills among high school students and improve communication and socialization skills for all participants. "Mrs. Heuer expressed a great deal of pride in the leadership qualities her students have demonstrated through this program and much delight in getting to witness the bond they’ve formed with Mr. Young’s students," reflecting on the positive outcomes of these interactions.
