William Floyd High School's senior cosmetology students recently had the opportunity to practice their skills on officers from the Suffolk County Police Department's 7th Precinct. Under the guidance of Ms. Karisa Beyer, the students offered various hair services such as blowouts, braids, curls, and haircuts to the visiting officers. This event provided a platform for students to connect with local law enforcement while showcasing their growing expertise in cosmetology.

The William Floyd Cosmetology Academy is part of the school's Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, which offers a comprehensive two-year course in cosmetology. The 1,000-hour New York State licensing course covers hairstyling, coloring, cutting, skin care, nail technology, make-up application, braiding, chemical texturizing, and hair extensions. Students gain practical experience using equipment and materials similar to those found in professional salons. Completing this program allows them to apply for New York State Cosmetology exams.

The CTE program at William Floyd High School includes eight academies covering various fields such as Automotive, Barbering, Culinary Arts, Medical Assisting, and more. It also provides pathways in business and technology like Accounting and Engineering. These programs aim to prepare students for both careers and higher education by equipping them with essential skills.
