Suffolk County Community College hosted members of the Suffolk County Legislature for a presentation on its Cybersecurity program, according to an announcement on Apr. 8. Legislators received an overview of the academic offerings and learned about real-time cyber threats that affect people daily.
The event included a presentation by Michael Morganelli from Cisco Systems, who discussed current trends in cybersecurity and highlighted workforce needs. The presentation emphasized the importance of partnerships between higher education institutions and technology companies.
A live demonstration was held in the college’s new Cyber Range, which is a simulated digital environment designed to replicate real-world networks and cyberattacks. Legislators participated alongside students enrolled in the cybersecurity program, gaining hands-on experience in identifying vulnerabilities and defending systems without risk to actual infrastructure.
Dr. Edward Bonahue, President of Suffolk County Community College, said: “Suffolk County Community College’s Cybersecurity Program continues to equip students with the technical expertise and critical thinking skills needed to succeed in one of today’s fastest-growing and most essential industries.”
