Active duty service members, veterans, and their families seeking to attend any SUNY college or university now have a centralized resource for support at suny.edu/military. The website, introduced by New York Governor Kathy Hochul on July 21, provides information about academic credit for military experience, tuition assistance, specialized scholarships, and dedicated campus services such as veteran lounges and associations across all 64 SUNY campuses.
The site also links veterans to county-level services in the communities where each campus is located. Updates will be made regularly as new information becomes available.
“We continue to rely so much on our veterans and military to protect everything we hold sacred, and it is a priority of my administration to make sure we help our military-connected New Yorkers have a smooth transition to their next career,” said Governor Hochul. “This one-stop shop from SUNY is easy to follow and helps guide service members and their families and puts them on a path to a rewarding degree or credential.”
Thirty-seven SUNY campuses offer academic credit for military service and experience. The website connects users with a search tool for available credits based on their training. Support resources include student veteran associations, military offices at campuses, as well as county programs throughout New York State.
SUNY developed the site so that veterans could more easily access programs and benefits earned through their service.
“SUNY provides a wide array of services for all those who stepped up and answered the call to serve our nation,” said SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. “From tuition assistance and specialized scholarships, to lounges and clubs, to credit for prior learning, it is important that every service member and veteran knows about the great programs at their disposal at every SUNY campus. We honor our veterans and service members, and our campus communities are richer for their presence.”
Stony Brook University offers resources tailored for its own veteran community through Undergraduate Admissions—which assists with application support, benefits guidance, tuition information—and its Office of Military and Veteran Student Services.
Governor Hochul has also announced expanded access to affordable education through the Veterans Tuition Assistance Program beginning July 1.
