Three William Floyd High School Career and Technical Education students qualified on April 7 to compete at the SkillsUSA State Leadership Conference in Syracuse, New York, after placing in the top two at the SkillsUSA Area VI Regional Competition held at Suffolk County Community College Brentwood campus.

The achievement highlights the school district’s focus on fostering student development and preparing them for success beyond high school. More than 700 students from across Long Island participated in competitions that included Automotive Service Technology, Barbering, Carpentry, Culinary Arts, Senior Cosmetology, Job Demo, Medical Assisting and Prepared Speech.

In the Barbering competition, senior Jayden Bosman placed first while junior Payton Bianco took second place. In Medical Assisting, senior Ciara Chicaiza also secured a first-place finish. These three students will now advance to compete at the state level: Bosman in Barbering; Chicaiza in Medical Assisting; and Bianco in Community Service by presenting on the barbering program’s monthly haircuts project. They will be joined by twenty-one additional William Floyd High School CTE students during those three days of competition.

The William Floyd School District has produced alumni recognized for contributions in scholarships, education leadership and community service according to the official website. The district operates ten schools including a high school, an academy and several middle and elementary schools according to its official website, serving more than 9,400 students from kindergarten through twelfth grade according to its official website.

The district has also received recognition for its music program as one of the top communities for music education and was named Department of the Year by the Business Teachers Association of New York State for its business department according to its official website. The district promotes collaboration among students, parents, educators and community members to support student growth across intellectual, emotional and physical areas according to its official website.

As these CTE students prepare for their next challenge at Syracuse later this month alongside their instructors Cara Cliffe (Barbering instructor), Charlize Gonzalez (Barbering teaching assistant), Jason McKay (Medical Assisting instructor) and Dr. Jason Holshoe (Medical Assisting teaching assistant), they continue a tradition of achievement within a supportive educational environment.
