Several services and facilities in the Town of Brookhaven will be affected by a winter storm forecasted to impact the area from Sunday, January 25, into Monday, January 26. The town has announced potential hazardous road conditions and urges residents to take note of schedule changes and closures.

Garbage collection may be suspended or delayed on Monday due to snow and unsafe roads. Some areas may experience missed pickups, but all missed garbage will be collected on Thursday, January 29. Collection on Thursday may occur later than usual because crews will handle increased volume from double collection. “We appreciate your patience and understanding as crews work to service all areas safely and efficiently once conditions allow,” the town stated.

All recreation centers, including the Brookhaven Aquatics Center, will be closed on Sunday and Monday in response to the weather forecast.

Senior services are also impacted. All activities scheduled for Monday at the Rose Caracappa Senior Center are canceled, and the center itself will be closed. The Congregate Nutrition Program will not operate at either its Rose Caracappa or Herkimer Recreation Center locations on Monday. Additional frozen meals have been delivered to homebound nutrition program clients in anticipation of these disruptions.

Brookhaven Calabro Airport will close for snow removal operations on Monday and Tuesday, January 26–27. A Notice to Air Missions has been issued advising pilots and aviation service providers of this closure so they can plan accordingly.

The Town Clerk’s extended evening office hours set for Monday (4:30 p.m.–7:00 p.m.) have also been canceled in preparation for the storm. Regular office hours will resume when conditions are safe.

Residents are encouraged to monitor official communication channels for further updates as weather conditions evolve. The town emphasized that public safety remains a top priority during winter storm operations.
