Twelve students from William Floyd High School will be recognized by the Town of Brookhaven Hispanic Advisory Board for their academic achievements. The students were selected for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 97 or higher.
The recognition will take place at the Town of Brookhaven’s 12th annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Friday, October 10 at Brookhaven Town Hall. The event will feature cultural music and food, and will bring together student-scholars from various school districts within the town.
The honored students are Rodolfo Arias Lainez, Christopher Ortiz Rodriguez, Matias Diaz Acosta, Madison Villacis, Savannah Edwards, Arianna Caserma, Sophia Munoz, Joslyn Lawrence, Joline Vasquez, Justine Vasquez and Khrys Zapata. Fatima Hernandez also received the honor but is not pictured.
The Brookhaven Town Hispanic Advisory Board was created in 2013 to promote cultural understanding between the Hispanic community and other groups in the area. According to the press release: “The mission of the Hispanic Advisory Board is to discuss and address issues of importance and relevance to the Hispanic community and make recommendations regarding proposed legislation to the Brookhaven Town Board.”
