Supervisor Daniel J. Panico and Councilmember Jonathan Kornreich recently participated in the Town of Brookhaven’s annual “Sticker Shock” campaign alongside students from Ward Melville High School. This initiative, organized by the Drug Prevention Coalition, took place on May 30, 2025, across various community locations.
The campaign involved a sticker design competition among health students at Ward Melville High School. The objective was to raise awareness about the risks associated with adults purchasing alcohol or vape products for minors. The top three designs were selected by the Drug Prevention Coalition and subsequently printed and distributed at local businesses with the assistance of student designers and their peers.
During the event, students visited several sites, including a 7-Eleven in Port Jefferson Station, Setauket Beer and Beverage, and Luigi’s Pizzeria. They placed warning stickers on alcoholic beverage cases, takeout bags, and pizza boxes to communicate a significant public health message to residents.
Both Supervisor Panico and Councilmember Kornreich joined the students at these locations to support their efforts and acknowledge the positive impact of this student-led initiative. The event was facilitated through collaboration between the Town of Brookhaven, Three Village Central School District, Suffolk County Police Department, and local business owners.
The Town expressed gratitude towards all participating students, educators, business owners, and coalition partners for their involvement in this impactful effort.
