The William Floyd girls’ varsity basketball team recently held a “Coaches vs. Cancer/Score for a Cure” game against Riverhead to raise funds for cancer research. The event included a shoot-a-thon, and proceeds from concessions and t-shirt sales contributed to nearly $650 raised for the American Cancer Society.
Players wore pink t-shirts during the game, each featuring the name of someone important in their lives who has battled cancer. Head coach Rich Sinclair said, “Coach Sinclair expressed thanks to the student-athletes and their families, the William Floyd teachers, and the entire school community for their generosity.”
On the court, William Floyd defeated Riverhead 81-32, improving their record at that time to 6-0. Junior Savannah Pantry led with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman Taleah Coppola added 12 points, seven steals, and five assists.
The Colonials now hold a 6-2 league record (7-3 overall) as they prepare for another playoff run.
