William Floyd High School hosted its annual K-12 College Fair and Career Expo on April 13, giving students the opportunity to learn about post-high school educational and career options. Representatives from colleges, universities, trade schools, and businesses attended the event to answer questions about admissions processes, job opportunities, and daily life at their institutions.
The event aimed to provide students and families with information that could help them plan for their futures after graduation. Several informational seminars were available during the expo, covering topics such as financial aid, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), NCAA eligibility requirements, scholarship opportunities, and more.
Students had the chance to meet with representatives from a wide range of New York-based institutions including Adelphi University, Hofstra University, Fashion Institute of Technology, several branches of the State University of New York system (SUNY), Long Island University, Rochester Institute of Technology, Suffolk County Community College among others. Out-of-state schools present included Penn State University, Seton Hall University, UMass Dartmouth and Virginia Commonwealth University. Employers such as CVS Health and community organizations like local fire departments and law enforcement agencies also participated.
The William Floyd School District serves more than 9,400 students across ten schools offering education from kindergarten through twelfth grade according to the official website. The district has produced alumni recognized for contributions in scholarships as well as leadership in education and community service according to the official website. The district’s music program has been acknowledged among top communities for music education while its business department was named Department of the Year by the Business Teachers Association of New York State according to the official website.
According to its official site the William Floyd School District fosters collaboration among students, parents, educators staff members and community partners in order to support student development across intellectual emotional aesthetic physical areas within a supportive environment.
