William Floyd High School junior Zavier Jenkins has been named one of Newsday’s top 50 boys’ indoor track runners for the 2025-26 season. This is the first time Jenkins has received this recognition.

Newsday described Jenkins’ previous winter and spring performances, stating, “He flashed potential during the indoor season before breaking out in the spring, running the second-fastest time among returners (49.36) and winning the county title in the 400.” The publication also predicted that Jenkins would excel in the 300-meter dash this season based on his achievements last year.

Jenkins had a standout performance at the Long Island Elite Meet, which features leading athletes from Suffolk and Nassau counties as well as the Catholic league. Competing in the freshman/sophomore division, he won first place in the 300-meter dash with a personal best of 36.81 seconds on a flat track.

In addition to his individual accomplishments, Jenkins contributed to his school’s relay team during spring. He helped lead William Floyd’s 4×400 relay team to a silver medal at the county championship meet and won the county championship in the 400-meter dash. The relay team later competed at the New York State Championships after posting Suffolk County’s second-best time of 42.27 at state qualifiers. Jenkins also earned a podium spot in the 400-meter dash during the Suffolk County Track and Field Championships in spring 2024.

“Zavier has a bright future ahead of him and is focused on continuing his success so he can place his name alongside the long list of accomplished William Floyd sprinters,” said boys’ varsity indoor track head coach Ed Noll last season.

The William Floyd School District serves more than 9,400 students across ten schools on Long Island’s south shore, offering programs that include athletics alongside STEM education, career training, arts, and music education. The district encourages collaboration among students, parents, educators, and community members to support student development (https://www.wfsd.k12.ny.us/).

Jenkins’ recent achievements add to a tradition of student accomplishment within William Floyd School District alumni recognized for contributions in scholarships and community service (https://www.wfsd.k12.ny.us/).

Congratulations were extended to Jenkins and all Colonial indoor track runners for their upcoming season.
