William Floyd High School senior Kaelyn Green has been awarded a new violin and related accessories through the Bob Murphy Violin Shop scholarship. The award, presented by Murphy’s Music, recognizes her commitment to music and her aspirations to become a music teacher.
In her application essay, Green described how music has influenced her life and explained that owning an instrument would support her long-term educational and career goals. She participates in several musical groups, including the William Floyd Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Brookhaven Academy of Music youth orchestra, as well as school chorus classes. During her junior year, she was involved in the Tri-M Music Honor Society, International Thespian Society, and participated in both drama and musical productions at the high school.
Green also received recognition from her teacher Ms. Diana Brown Hoppe and Dr. Amy Sckipp, coordinator of music for the William Floyd School District. They praised her dedication to practice and noted that having her own instrument will help advance her goal of becoming an orchestra teacher.
Murphy’s Music has provided scholarships in the form of new instruments for several years to support student-musicians on Long Island. Green is the third student from William Floyd School District to receive this scholarship.
In addition to these achievements, Green earned an invitation to the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA), recognizing her as one of the top string performers among students from various Long Island school districts.
“Kaelyn practices diligently and having her own instrument will help her goal of becoming an orchestra teacher become a reality,” said Dr. Amy Sckipp.
