The William Floyd School District Music Department recently held its annual Summer Music Enrichment Program, under the direction of Dr. Amy Sckipp, Coordinator of Music. The program took place over eight days in July and was open to students who completed grades 4 through 11.
During the program, students had the opportunity to improve their musical skills and knowledge in a smaller classroom setting after the regular school year ended. Classes offered included chorus, guitar, piano, and other music-related subjects.
According to district officials, student-musicians showed high levels of engagement with their teachers’ lessons and were enthusiastic about continuing their music education with classmates. “This dedication to music education by students, faculty and staff, is a strong example of why the William Floyd Music Department is so strong,” stated a representative from the department.
The district highlighted that William Floyd music students and groups have received numerous recognitions and awards for excellence. Most recently, the department earned its third consecutive and ninth overall “Best Communities for Music Education” designation from NAMM during the past school year.
