The William Floyd Learning Center recently held a moving-up ceremony for its fifth-grade students. The event took place on Wednesday, June 25, and marked the transition of 13 students to sixth grade in the upcoming fall.

The ceremony featured various student achievements, awards, and completion certificates for the fifth graders. A performance by K-4 students led by music teacher Allison Prestia was also part of the celebration.

The students moving up to middle school include Preslee Ancona, Jaliyah Bland, Ja’Syah Earl, Travis Hamilton, Trevor Hamilton, Herve Michel, Jeremy Pelaez, Joshua Pelaez, Mohammed Proctor, Elijah Ross, Ethan Ross, Jamari Smith, and Jace Verdi.

Principal Gary Bretton and assistant principal Lisa Tanturri were present at the ceremony along with fifth-grade teacher Zachary Fisher and teaching assistant Alyson Spano. Special recognition was given to Wendy Gross, a kindergarten teacher retiring this year after many years of service at William Floyd Learning Center and previously at Tangier Smith Elementary School.
