Fourteen student-musicians from the William Floyd School District have been chosen to participate in the Long Island String Festival Association (LISFA) this school year. The selected students include nine from William Floyd High School, three from William Paca Middle School, one from William Floyd Middle School, and one from John S. Hobart Elementary School.

The LISFA festival features top string performers from various school districts on Long Island. Students are nominated by their teachers and then selected by a panel of Suffolk County music educators based on their performance scores from the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo adjudications. Being selected for LISFA is considered a prestigious honor.

The students representing William Floyd High School are Emily Behrens (violin), Frank Canales (violin), Lynette Cardona (double bass), Arianna Caserma (violin), Kaelyn Green (violin), Vincent Montecalvo (viola), Ava Ng (viola), Connor Ng (cello), and James Rahman (cello). From William Paca Middle School, Alani Bosch, Roman Carballo, and Jaxon DiFiretus were chosen. Gianna Formato was selected from William Floyd Middle School, and Keira Almodovar will represent John S. Hobart Elementary School.

Acknowledgment also goes to their teachers: Diana Brown Hoppe and Sarah Weber at William Floyd High School; Lauren Farrell and Gabriella Forgit at William Paca Middle School; Amanda Gardner at William Floyd Middle School; and Katelyn Levine at John S. Hobart Elementary School.

“The William Floyd School District is very proud of these amazing student-musicians for their hard work and accomplishments!”

Established in 1956, LISFA’s mission is “to educate young string musicians by providing them the opportunity to work with renowned conductors and musicians from across the country.”
