William Floyd High School senior Zariel Macchia delivered a strong performance at her final NYSPHSAA New York State Championship meet. Macchia claimed both the Class A and Federation championships in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:26.55. In the 1,500-meter run, she finished second overall but secured the Class A championship with a time of 4:22.76.

Head coach John Ryan commented on her achievements, stating, “Zariel has many State Championship titles to be proud of, but this past weekend was her most impressive performance of her storied high school career as she raced with an ankle injury that would have sidelined most competitors.”

Macchia’s high school career includes breaking numerous records and winning various championships. She is recognized as one of William Floyd’s greatest student-athletes. Looking ahead, Macchia will join Brigham Young University Cougars in Division I collegiate competition this fall.
