TOWN OF BABYLON: Wyandanch Mural, First Project in Babylon Arts Initiative, Completed by Students

Gallery

Town of Babylon issued the following announcement on Sept. 10.

Town of Babylon Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilman Terry McSweeney and others recently attended the unveiling of a new student-made mural in Wyandanch. The mural is the first completed arts project part of a joint effort announced in July between the Town of Babylon, Babylon Citizen Council on the Arts (BACCA) and Babylon IDA to support local artists and downtown locations in the wake of COVID-19. The Local Development Corp., an arm of the IDA, secured a $100,000 endowment to fund the initiative, which will feature murals, sculptures, a concert and more.

The mural was completed by Wyandanch High School students under the guidance of local artist Marie E. Saint-Cyr. Students Dinah Berger, Naomi Patrick, David Smith, D’zyr Squires, Princess Aaron, Poetry King and Chastity Anderson painted a mural with a “self-care” theme on the back of the HRH Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center on Long Island Avenue.
