Stony Brook University issued the following announcement on Oct. 30.

Lynn Johnson, Vice President of Human Resource Services, has issued an update concerning required on-campus COVID-19 testing for employees. The message reads as follows:

Stony Brook University is committed to helping to maintain the health and safety of our campus community. Thank you for your continued vigilance and cooperation by wearing your face mask, practicing physical distancing, and washing your hands regularly.

As our Testing Message noted, a critical part of our plan is to conduct mandatory COVID-19 pooled saliva testing throughout the semester, and everyone’s continued participation is expected to help keep our campus community safe.

Convenient, free employee saliva COVID-19 tests will take place on-campus. In addition to our Student Activity Center (SAC) location we have added additional locations in the Health Sciences Center (HSC) Galleria, level 3 and on the Stony Brook Southampton campus in the Student Center.

Registering for Your COVID-19 Saliva Test:

For your required saliva test, please register at least 2 hours before you go for your test.

If this is your first time using the registration site, choose “Register.” Enter your SBU email (example@stonybrook.edu) and create a new password that meets the minimum criteria. DO NOT use your SBU password.

To complete the online registration form:

  • ONLY enter your name, email address, phone number, SBU ID# and date of birth on the registration form even though it asks for or “requires” additional information.
  • Do not enter health insurance information. It is not needed.
  • Do not enter SSN.
  • If the form prevents you from proceeding without completing a field enter 0 (zeros) for digits and NA for words.
Please note that your test kit will be given to you at the testing site.

Should you encounter any technical issues during the registration process, please contact Dariusz Soszynski at dariusz.soszynski@stonybrook.edu or Ahmed Belazi at ahmed.w.belazi@stonybrook.edu.

The Testing Schedule:

Our locations and testing schedule are as follows:

Student Activities Center, Ballroom: Monday through Thursday 8:30am – 2:30pm,

HSC Galleria: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:30am – 2:00pm

Stony Brook Southampton campus, Student Life Center: Tuesday and Thursday 8:30am – 2:30pm

Please attend at a time and location that is convenient to you and your department.

Please note that there will be no testing on Fridays or observed holidays.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days, and you have provided the Health Information Line (HIL) or Human Resources with a physician’s note indicating you are free of infection, do not sign up for an appointment.

On the Day of Your COVID-19 Saliva Test:

  • You MUST refrain from eating or drinking anything, including chewing gum, mints, or lozenges, within 30 minutes of reporting to the testing site, and should not have brushed your teeth or used mouthwash within the 3 hours before arriving at the test site. You must also abstain from smoking, vaping, or using smokeless tobacco products for 30 minutes prior to the test.
  • Bring your Stony Brook University campus ID card AND mobile electronic device. You will need this device to match your registration details to the specimen being collected and sent to the lab.
  • As required every time you come to campus, you MUST have completed your health screening via the CampusClear App. You will need to show your CampusClear “Cleared” result in order to qualify for testing at this site. Make sure you have the app open before you come in.
  • You will be given a swab at the testing site and asked to rub the inside of both cheeks of your mouth with the swab for 10-15 seconds under the observation of an attendant. Samples are left with the attendant. A video demonstrating the process can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/447270240.
After Your COVID-19 Saliva Test:

Results are typically available to the provider of record (HIL) within 2-5 days after your sample is sent to the lab. Individuals who test negative will not be notified. Individuals who test positive will be notified immediately and, as required by law, the information will be reported to the NYS Department of Health.

Please refer to these Testing FAQ’s for more information. If you have any testing questions, please contact the health information line at (631) 632-5000, option #1. All other questions should be referred to Human Resource Services at (631) 632-5000 option #2.

Thank you for helping to keep our campus community safe and healthy!
