HAUPPAUGE, NY - Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County), a member of the Homeland Security Committee, has called on President Biden and the Administration to take immediate action to secure the U.S.-Mexico border by enforcing existing immigration and border security laws.
In a statement released, LaLota emphasized, "TODAY, with a stroke of a pen, President Biden could secure the border. Don’t let them fool you. This Administration could take real action, instead of talking, by canceling mass parole, stopping the repositioning of border agents away from the border, resuming construction of the border wall, and banning asylum claims between ports of entry."
Furthermore, LaLota expressed concern that the Biden Administration's current approach to the border and migrant crisis may be aimed at achieving other objectives such as amnesty and sanctuary city bailouts. He stated, "That he won’t take these simple actions and is now using the border and migrant crisis as political leverage to achieve other objectives like amnesty and sanctuary city bailouts is evidence of a willful and systematic plan to subvert our nation’s border security and immigration laws. We don’t need more laws, we need the Executive Branch to enforce existing laws to keep our country safe."
Additionally, it is noted that in May 2023, LaLota supported H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which aimed to end fraudulent asylum claims, "catch and release" policies, resume construction of the border wall, increase Border Patrol resources, and close loopholes in the immigration process.
LaLota's strong stance underscores the ongoing debate surrounding immigration and border security in the United States, urging for concrete actions to uphold existing laws for the safety and security of the nation.
