Assemblywoman Jodi Giglio (R,C,I-Riverhead) and the nonprofit organization Moms for Liberty addressed the press today regarding the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices' recommendation for Covid-19 vaccines to be included in the childhood immunization schedule. The two groups called on state lawmakers and candidates to refrain from mandating Covid-19 vaccinations for school attendance until they have undergone thorough testing and evaluation for safety and efficacy.
Giglio emphasized, "Our mission is not one of anti-vaccination, but ensuring that all vaccines, including the recently recommended Covid 19, go through the proper vaccination testing and approval protocol." She highlighted the importance of upholding standards of safety and efficacy in vaccine approval processes.
Moms for Liberty, known for advocating parental rights in education, partnered with Giglio due to her dedication to families and their autonomy. Giglio, a mother herself, stressed the significance of allowing parents to make informed decisions about their children's schooling. The collaboration between Giglio and Moms for Liberty was driven by concerns about the Covid-19 vaccines' compliance with FDA standards for safety and efficacy, which typically involve extensive testing over a decade or more.
Regarding the broader implications of Covid-19 vaccine mandates, Giglio remarked, "The responsibility falls on us to make sure our federal systems put the vaccine through its necessary paces." She vowed not to support mandates that overlook proper testing protocols, particularly if they hinder children from accessing education in social settings.
Giglio concluded, "As a mother, as an engaged member of the community and as a representative, I will not abide by systems that mandate vaccinations of vaccines without the proper protocols." The joint efforts of Giglio and Moms for Liberty reflect their commitment to advocating for comprehensive evaluation and informed decision-making in public health policies.
