PORT JEFFERSON, NY - Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) has successfully secured $1.5 million for the Town of Brookhaven's Port Jefferson Harbor dredging and wave wall construction projects. LaLota expressed his satisfaction with the achievement, stating, "I am proud to be able to continue to deliver on my promise to put Suffolk County first by securing $1.5 million for the Town of Brookhaven and critical infrastructure in Port Jefferson Harbor."
Brookhaven Town Supervisor Daniel J. Panico also shared his thoughts on the funding, emphasizing the importance of the projects by stating, "The dredging and wave wall construction at Port Jefferson Harbor is a priority, and now that this $1.5 million in funding has been secured, we are ready to move forward."
The funding for the Town of Brookhaven was made possible through the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations bill, signed into law last month. This financial support will facilitate crucial improvements to Port Jefferson Harbor, focusing on dredging and structural enhancements within the Town of Brookhaven Marina.
Port Jefferson Harbor plays a significant role in the region's economy, with a depth of 26 feet maintained to enable passage from the harbor entrance to the Village of Port Jefferson. The completion of these infrastructure projects is expected to benefit the waterfront economy and enhance the quality of life for Long Island residents.
In addition to the funding for Port Jefferson Harbor, Rep. LaLota recently announced $3 million in federal funding for the Village of Greenport, further demonstrating his commitment to supporting essential projects across Suffolk County.
