Assemblyman Keith P. Brown has played a pivotal role in organizing the 3rd Annual Strengthening the System of Care for Co-Occurring Disorders Long Island Conference. The event, scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024, aims to address the challenges faced by individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, as well as provide better support for families.

Brown expressed his pride in being involved in the conference, stating, “I am very proud to help organize and have the opportunity to speak at this very important conference with so many caring doctors, counselors, integrated care professionals and leaders in the medical and mental health care fields.” He emphasized the importance of spreading awareness of co-occurring disorders and promoting integration of services to support affected individuals and their families.

Dr. Jeffrey L. Reynolds, President/CEO of Family & Children’s Association, highlighted the significance of the conference in ensuring access to competent care for individuals with co-occurring disorders. He stated, “This is one of the few conferences statewide where participants leave with a call to action and a concrete plan for advancing access to competent care.”

Stephanie Marquesano, founder and president of the harris project, expressed her commitment to collaborating with Assemblyman Brown and the team from Long Island to raise awareness about co-occurring disorders and improve access to treatment. She emphasized the importance of legislative opportunities in effecting meaningful change for all New Yorkers.

Mary Silberstein from CN Guidance & Counseling Services stressed the importance of addressing co-occurring disorders simultaneously to effectively manage symptoms. She highlighted the need to raise the behavioral health bar to eliminate barriers in accessing care for individuals in need.

Anthony Rizzuto, Director of Provider Relations at Seafield Center, pointed out the increase in individuals suffering from co-occurring disorders post-Covid and emphasized the importance of integrating systems of care to provide comprehensive treatment.

The conference aims to address the complexities faced by individuals with co-occurring disorders and provide a platform for professionals and advocates to collaborate towards improving care and support for affected individuals and families. While general registration is closed, registration for event sponsors is still open, with Assemblyman Brown looking forward to a successful event.
