Suffolk County Releases COVID-19 Update for April 25, 2024

Suffolk County released important information regarding COVID-19 on April 25, 2024. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), "hospital admission rates and the percentage of COVID-19 deaths among all deaths are now the primary surveillance metrics."

In terms of hospitalization data, new statistics were provided for the week ending April 20, 2024. There were 63 new hospital admissions of confirmed COVID-19 patients, with a -4.5% percent change from the prior week. The hospital admissions per 100k in the past week were reported at 2.2, indicating a low COVID-19 hospital admissions level.

A daily hospitalization summary for Suffolk County on April 25, 2024, revealed that 19 individuals were hospitalized, with 63% of them being hospitalized due to COVID-19 or complications of COVID-19. Two new admissions were recorded since the last report, while six patients were discharged. Fortunately, there were no patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at that time. It is important to note that "HOSPITALS ARE NO LONGER REPORTING DATA TO NYSDOH ON WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS."

Regarding fatalities, as of April 25, 2024, there have been a total of 5,281 fatalities in Suffolk County since March 2020, with an increase of 1 since the last report. The annual breakdown of fatalities is as follows: 2020 - 2,311, 2021 - 1,507, 2022 - 1,015, 2023 - 318, and 2024 - 135 to date.

In terms of COVID-19 cases, the COVID-19 Case Tracker for April 23, 2024, reported 49 cases with 3.2 cases per 100k and 2.6 on a 7-day average. The Suffolk County Department continues to provide vaccination information and clinics for residents, encouraging those with insurance covering the COVID-19 vaccine to receive their vaccines at local pharmacies, health care providers' offices, or federally qualified health centers.

For individuals seeking COVID-19 testing, free tests are available in Suffolk County. Additionally, the county is conducting COVID-19 wastewater surveillance as part of its efforts to monitor and combat the spread of the virus.
