Nassau police issue alert on non-credible nationwide school threat

The Nassau County Police Department has issued an alert regarding a nationwide school threat circulating on social media, which they have determined to be non-credible.

The department stated, “The Nassau County Police Department has been tracking a nationwide school threat circulating via social media which references a series of escalating incidents culminating with a fire alarm being pulled and a shooter targeting those evacuating. This threat has impacted multiple states. Recently it began circulating in our region. The origin has been repeatedly investigated and was found to be non-credible.”

The William Floyd School District contacted the Suffolk County Police Department, which also confirmed the non-credible nature of the threat.

"There have NOT been any threats of this nature directed toward the William Floyd School District," officials emphasized.

The district underscored its commitment to student and staff safety, highlighting significant investments in security measures. These include expanding their security force, maintaining constant communication with law enforcement partners, conducting regular lockdown drills, and implementing strict visitor procedures. They also collaborate with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s office and the Department of Homeland Security for security assessments.

"The district’s number one priority has been and will continue to be the safety and security of our students and staff," officials reiterated.

The district urged vigilance among students and residents, encouraging them to report suspicious activities via a confidential hotline at (631) 874-1200. They warned that threats would result in severe consequences both within the school system and potentially through criminal prosecution.
