Moriches Elementary School teacher Mrs. Petersen, along with students holding "The Cat in the Hat," benefited from a recent donation by William Floyd United Teachers (WFUT). Through a “Reading Opens the World” grant funded by the American Federation of Teachers, WFUT donated a copy of Dr. Seuss’s classic to every kindergarten student in the William Floyd School District.

“WFUT believes that early literacy lays the foundation for future academic success, and The Cat in the Hat, with its whimsical rhymes and engaging illustrations, provides the perfect starting point,” said Michael Devenney, William Floyd High School English teacher and president of WFUT. “We are thrilled to bring this initiative to life and look forward to seeing the joy it brings to students and families across the district.”

Last week, William Floyd teachers gathered to sort the books and prepare them for distribution at Meet-the-Teacher Night. Any extra books will be donated to classrooms in the district, school libraries, or at one of their local action committee’s sharing tables this fall.
