The William Floyd School District has announced that it must comply with a federal mandate requiring the release of student information to military recruiters upon request. This directive is part of the No Child Left Behind Act, an amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA).

According to §9528 of the ESEA (20 U.S.C. §7908), schools are obligated to provide military recruiters with the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of high school students. The district has also informed parents and guardians about their right to prevent this information from being released without prior written consent.

"Parents or students wishing to exercise their option to withhold such information without their prior written consent must sign and return the form below to their guidance counselor or assistant principal no later than October 24, 2024," reads a statement from the district.

The necessary form can be downloaded from the General Information tab on the Counseling Center page of the district's website.
