Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) has announced the recipients of its 2024 scholarship awards. The scholarships, given to children of employees and retirees at Brookhaven Lab, have been a tradition since 1965. This year, 20 high school seniors were selected for the award.
Each recipient will receive $2,500 annually for up to four years to support their college education. Those who choose to attend Stony Brook University as full-time students will also benefit from a matching scholarship provided by the university.
The selection process is managed by International Scholarship and Tuition Services (ISTS), with winners chosen by an independent committee reporting to ISTS. Information regarding applications for the next round of scholarships will be available in early December for current high school seniors planning to apply for fall 2025.
Among this year's scholars are Claire Cannella, set to attend Temple University majoring in political science; Olivia Carroll, whose college choice remains undecided but plans to study kinesiology and nutrition; and John Clarke. Other notable recipients include Brandon Feder heading to Pennsylvania State University for mathematics and Anna Fedotov who intends to study neuroscience at UCLA.
Additional awardees include Judy Hu pursuing biomedical engineering at Cornell University, Emma Li entering Tufts University undeclared, Audrey Malanga studying industrial design at Iowa State University, Grace Martin-Tsoupas majoring in fine art at SUNY New Paltz, and James McKeever focusing on biology at Loyola University Chicago.
Further recipients are Victoria Pendzick enrolled at Rochester Institute of Technology undeclared; Alexander Polyansky attending Colby College for biology; Kevin Shi combining computer science and linguistics studies at Northeastern University; Emma Venegoni aiming for childhood education at SUNY Geneseo; Gwendolyn Vignato studying business administration at St. Joseph's University; Benjamin Wu pursuing applied math and economics at Duke University; and Alan Yue focusing on biomedical engineering at Purdue University.
