Stony Brook University's Office of Military and Veteran Student Services has been highlighted in the latest issue of U.S. Veterans Magazine. The feature focuses on the various programs and support systems that Stony Brook University (SBU) provides to student veterans and their dependents.

Pamela Pfeil, associate director of Military and Veteran Student Services at SBU, discussed how the university has established itself as a leader in offering "exceptional support to military and veteran students, creating an environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and professionally."

The article points out that Stony Brook has adopted a comprehensive strategy to tackle the unique challenges faced by veterans while acknowledging their contributions to the campus community.

The magazine also emphasizes the role of the university’s Veterans Center as a hub for fostering a sense of belonging and community among student veterans. It is described as central to efforts aimed at ensuring these students feel connected to the university. Programs such as the Vets-4-Vets sponsorship initiative, along with mental health and career support services offered by the office, are also highlighted.

Pfeil is quoted saying, “We work hard to create that sense of belonging. We know that creating a community can be a great step in helping veterans feel less isolated.”
