The Board of Education convened on October 29, 2024, to discuss the pressing issue of school safety. The primary focus was on the installation of metal detectors at all designated entrances in K-12 schools. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security measures.

Two key presentations were delivered during the meeting. Officer McVeigh from the Suffolk County Police Department Homeland Security Section and Michael Stam, Director of Security for the William Floyd School District, both provided insights into the proposed safety enhancements.

The Board emphasized that "the safety and security of students and staff is and will continue to be the number one priority." For those interested in more details, a full video recording of the meeting is available online. Questions can be directed via email to publicrelations@wfsd.k12.ny.us.
