The William Floyd Colonials have concluded their fall varsity sports seasons with notable performances across various teams. The football team, led by Head Coach Paul Longo, finished the regular season as Division I champions with a 7-1 record. Their final victory was a 42-30 win over Connetquot. The Colonials will face Sachem East in the first-round quarterfinal playoff game on November 9.
The girls' varsity tennis team, under Coach Dave Pia, achieved a 14-2 overall record and secured the No. 4 seed in the playoffs. "All of the hard work over the summer got us off to a great start this year and sustained us through the season," said Coach Pia.
Boys' soccer, coached by Paul Paniccia, ended their season with a 9-6-1 record and reached postseason play for the tenth consecutive year. They defeated Ward Melville in double overtime but were later eliminated by Commack.
In gymnastics, Coach Rich Daly's team qualified for the county tournament for a second straight year with key performances from athletes like Katelyn Perillo and Ava Alese. "We lost several key athletes along the way since last season," noted Daly.
Field hockey saw contributions from junior Gianna Trotta and goaltender Kalina-Sky Permenter under Coach Maria Carucci’s leadership. Girls' soccer also showed resilience with four wins this season according to Coach Kristen Carroll.
The volleyball team captured four victories at home, guided by Captain Claira Parente and Co-Captain Rayhanna Bailey under Coach Matthew Van Horne's strategy of focusing on incremental improvements.
Girls' cross country celebrated two wins and is preparing for state qualifiers after competing in Divisional Championships. Star runner Zariel Macchia won a national title recently.
The boys' cross-country team secured two victories as well under Head Coach Ed Noll's guidance before concluding their competitive schedule at divisional championships.
Coach Taylor Buckley's swimming squad demonstrated progress during meets with standout efforts resulting in a win against West Babylon. Boys’ golf focused on development with junior Matt Filosa qualifying for county tournaments under Tom Short’s coaching.
