The Auxiliary Services Association (ASA) has announced the winners of the Shop Red T-Shirt Design Contest, Olivia Qiu and Emma Loffredo. Their designs, chosen by campus community votes, embody the spirit of Stony Brook University. The limited edition T-shirts will be available at Shop Red West and Southampton Cafe, allowing students, faculty, and staff to showcase their work across campuses. Each student will earn $5 for every shirt sold.

Diana Kubik, executive director of the Auxiliary Services Association, stated: “We developed this t-shirt contest to give students a chance to show the SBU community what Stony Brook means to them through their creative lens. Through contests like this one and student engagement programs, our aim continues to be to build community together while simultaneously highlighting the incredible talent that exists within our student body.”

Participants in the contest included Alexandra Jovic ‘25, Jordan Yando ‘25, John Grijalva ‘26, Olivia Qiu ‘25, Michelle Shum ‘25, and Emma Loffredo ‘25. Each submitted a design reflecting their unique perspective on Stony Brook pride.

Olivia Qiu's design was inspired by comic book panels. She explained: “I drew Wolfie, an iconic character, and included some notable places on campus such as the SAC, Wang Center, and the Zebra Path. I wanted to create a fun and dynamic design while tying in themes about the university.”

Emma Loffredo’s design drew from her experiences with aquatic animals in Shinnecock Bay. She noted: “My design included a fish wearing a Stony Brook hat to represent the vibrant marine life and school spirit at the Stony Brook Southampton campus.”

The ASA is dedicated to fostering student creativity. Recently they hosted a Paint Night event led by Diana Raden '25 where attendees enjoyed painting in a social setting. Next spring will see an artisan market for SBU student entrepreneurs and artists.

The Shop Red T-Shirt Design Contest celebrates Stony Brook’s creative talents among its Seawolves community. Later this month these unique T-shirts can be viewed at Shop Red West or purchased online at sbushopred.com.
