Councilwoman Jane Bonner is urging residents of Brookhaven to register for the 14th annual New York Special Olympics Polar Plunge. The event is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, at Cedar Beach in Mt. Sinai. Those interested can visit specialolympics.org for more details, registration, or donations. On-site registration will begin at 9:30 am with the plunge starting at 11:30 am.

Cedar Beach, where the event will take place, is located at 244 Harbor Beach Road in Mt. Sinai. Participants can also join a Pre-Plunge Party on November 22 at J&R’s Steakhouse in Rocky Point to complete their waivers, submit donations, and collect wristbands. Individuals raising $150 or more will receive a free sweatshirt.

The Special Olympics athletes train extensively for various competitions supported by over 5,000 coaches and 4,300 volunteers without being charged any fees. Donations are crucial to cover these costs. Councilwoman Bonner encourages participation from all ages in the plunge and emphasizes pledging donations.
