The U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory has announced the recipients of its 2024 Engineering Awards, honoring individuals for their significant contributions to the laboratory's engineering and computing objectives.

Jesse Fite from the Collider-Accelerator Department is recognized for his work over a 17-year period. He has been instrumental in projects such as the teardown and reconstruction at the LINAC, upgrades at NASA Space Radiation Laboratory, and design efforts on critical beam infrastructure. Fite is currently working on prototype power couplers for the Electron-Ion Collider’s electron storage ring.

Robert ‘Rob’ Pisani of the Physics Department is acknowledged for his expertise with gases and gas systems in nuclear and particle physics detectors. His leadership on cooling and gas circulation systems for sPHENIX's ancillary detector subsystems ensured timely completion despite various challenges, contributing significantly to sPHENIX's success.

Eric Raguzin from the Instrumentation Department has made notable contributions to electronic design within Data Acquisition group projects, including work on space-grade applications like LuSEE-Night. His innovations have advanced neutrino research and opened new capabilities for quantum computing applications at Brookhaven.

Daniel Weiss, also from the Collider-Accelerator Department, is honored for his extensive experience managing vacuum systems essential to particle accelerators worldwide. His leadership during RHIC construction and subsequent upgrades have pushed performance beyond initial specifications.

A team comprising Wei Xu, Weihe Xu, Juan Zhou, Hanfei Yan, and Evgeny Nazaretski from NSLS-II developed an innovative solution for nano-scale imaging in x-ray microscopy. Their work enhances NSLS-II’s standing as a premier synchrotron facility globally.

The awards were part of Brookhaven Lab's 2024 Employee Awards and VIP Service Celebration held on November 13th.
