Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the conviction of a 56-year-old man from Islip, New York, on charges of sexual abuse in the first degree and related offenses. The man was found guilty by a jury for sexually abusing his daughter over several occasions, beginning when she was 15 years old.

District Attorney Tierney stated, "The verdict today holds the defendant accountable for his horrific actions. Our thoughts remain with the victim as she continues to heal from this unimaginable trauma."

During the trial, evidence showed that in February 2023, after an incident of sexual abuse, the victim disclosed her experience to a teacher. She reported that her father had begun grooming her in 2020 at age 15. Police recovered clothing from the February incident and DNA analysis confirmed the presence of the defendant’s semen.

The Suffolk County Police Department arrested him on February 17, 2023. On December 12, 2024, he was convicted before Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei on two counts of sexual abuse in the first degree and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Judge Mazzei remanded him until sentencing scheduled for January 13, 2025. He faces up to 14 years in prison and will be required to register as a sex offender. His defense is being handled by Don Savatta.

Assistant District Attorneys Melissa Grier and Johanna Poremba prosecuted the case with Detective Lisa Hofelich conducting the investigation for Suffolk County Police Department’s Special Victims Squad.
