Rep. Nick LaLota of Suffolk County has been appointed to the House Appropriations Committee for the 119th Congress. In a statement, LaLota expressed his gratitude and commitment to responsible spending: "I am deeply honored to have been selected to serve on the influential House Appropriations Committee and grateful for the support of my colleagues throughout this process. This new role is an incredible opportunity to ensure taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly and transparently, strengthening national security, supporting hardworking families, and addressing the needs of communities across Suffolk County," said LaLota.

He emphasized his dedication to Long Islanders: "Serving on the Appropriations Committee is both a privilege and a significant responsibility. I am committed to advocating for the priorities of Long Islanders, delivering critical funding to Suffolk County, and helping restore fiscal discipline in Washington, ensuring federal resources benefit the people I am proud to represent."

The House Appropriations Committee plays a vital role in federal budgeting by crafting legislation that allocates taxpayer dollars for government agencies and programs. It oversees funding in areas such as defense, education, healthcare, and infrastructure through its 12 specialized subcommittees.

LaLota's appointment marks him as the first Republican from New York on this committee since James T. Walsh left office in 2009. During his first term, LaLota secured over $150 million in federal funding for Suffolk County projects.
