William Floyd High School bowling secures spot in Suffolk County Championship

The William Floyd High School varsity bowling team has once again qualified for the Suffolk County Championship, marking their 15th consecutive appearance. Led by head coach James Healey, the Colonials completed the regular season with a strong 12-2 record, securing second place overall. The championship is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 8, at Bowlero in Sayville.

Nicholas Powers emerged as a standout performer this season. He achieved an average of 215.57, with a high series of 729 and a high game score of 268. His individual record was impressive with 33 wins and just 10 losses, placing him second in League 2. At the High School Individual Tournament, Nicholas recorded a series score of 656 and a high game of 278, finishing tenth overall in Suffolk County.

The team comprises several notable players including Trinity Field, Nicholas Powers, Austin Matz, Janelle Ramoska, Gino Conforti, and Colin Smith. Trinity Field was recognized for her contributions as the only senior on the team this year. She finished ranked twelfth among female bowlers in Suffolk County with an average score of 180.69 and earned All-League honors.

Trinity's performance included a second-place finish at the Suffolk County Girls’ Singles/Doubles Tournament held at East Islip Lanes where she scored a series of 729 in singles play. Alongside Janelle Ramoska, she won the “B” division championship at this year's Girls’ Doubles Tournament.

Other key players also had commendable seasons: Austin Matz averaged 178.79; Colin Smith posted an average of 170.79; Gino Conforti concluded his season with an average score of 175.38; while Janelle Ramoska ended her season averaging 163.

Looking ahead to future prospects are Devin Scalice, Leo Lombardo, Tristan Ng, Muhammad Umair, and Aaniyah Johnson who are expected to contribute significantly next season.

In addition to their county success, the team comprising Trinity Field, Nicholas Powers, Gino Conforti and Colin Smith placed second at the New York State USBC Youth Championship Tournament and will advance to compete in Syracuse on May 3.
