William Floyd High School's cheerleading team is set to compete in the National High School Cheerleading Championship (NHSCC) for the first time. The event will take place in Orlando, Florida, from February 7-10, 2025. This participation marks a significant milestone for the team and the school community.
The NHSCC is one of the most competitive events in high school cheerleading across the country. William Floyd's cheerleaders have achieved this through years of dedication and effort. Head coach Jessica Alvi and assistant coach Christina Molnar have led the team to this opportunity with their leadership.
“We are incredibly proud of this team for making it to the NHSCC,” said Coach Alvi. “This is a dream come true for our athletes, and it’s a testament to their commitment and passion for the sport. They have worked incredibly hard to get here, and we know they'll give it their all when they take the floor. Our motto for this trip comes from the magical fairytale Cinderella, even miracles take a little time.”
The team's journey to NHSCC was challenging but marked by resilience and determination. Their success highlights their strong work ethic on and off the mat as they prepare to compete against top teams nationwide.
For William Floyd High School, this achievement extends beyond just a win; it's a proud moment for their entire community. The cheerleading team expressed gratitude towards supporters who contributed generously toward their goal of reaching NHSCC. Coach Alvi emphasized community support: “We are beyond grateful for the encouragement and belief you've shown in our team. We couldn't have done it without you and our supportive team families,” she said.
Additionally, William Floyd's Colonials recently participated in Newsday Cheerfest, competing among top teams from Nassau and Suffolk counties where they finished in the top five.
“A the team heads to Orlando for the NHSCC on February 7, all eyes will be on William Floyd," concluded Coach Alvi.
