Stony Brook University has achieved a significant milestone by entering the top 100 in physical sciences in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject for 2025. The university secured the 84th position globally, marking its highest ranking since it was placed at 71st in 2016. This advancement reflects an improvement from its 2024 standing, where it was ranked within the 101-125 range.
In addition to its progress in physical sciences, Stony Brook showed improvements in other areas. It advanced to the 101-125 range in Computer Science and the 301-400 range in Business and Economics. However, the university's rankings remained consistent in Psychology, Arts and Humanities, Engineering, and Social Sciences.
The Life Sciences rankings were released on January 22 and assess universities across four core disciplines: Veterinary Science, Biological Sciences (including biology and biochemistry), Agriculture and Forestry, and Sport Science. This year's evaluation included 1,143 institutions from a total of 98 countries and territories.
