BROOKHAVEN: Brookhaven Town Fire Marshal’s Quick Action Helps to Save Life of Opioid Overdose Victim

Announcement

Brookhaven issued the following announcement on Dec. 4.

On the evening of December 2, Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal, Michael Seymour, monitored a police radio report of a 26-year-old male who was not breathing and unconscious from a possible opioid overdose. Upon arrival at the scene, Fire Marshal Seymour assisted a Suffolk County Police Officer who was administering CPR to the male in a vehicle parked outside a Middle Island convenience store. Two doses of Fire Marshal Seymour’s Town-issued Narcan® were administered while CPR continued. The male was revived and then transported to a local hospital by Middle Island Fire Department EMS. An infant child, who was also in the vehicle, was released to the care of a family member. A team effort by Fire Marshal Seymour, the Suffolk County Police Officers, Middle Island Fire Department EMS and a bystander who called 911, provided for a successful outcome.

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “I commend the actions taken by Fire Marshal Seymour to help save a life and protect an infant from danger. All our Fire Marshals are Narcan® trained for situations just like this where seconds matter and a life is on the line. It is with great pride that the Town recognizes the efforts of Fire Marshal Seymour for his quick action.”
