Brookhaven issued the following announcement on Dec. 11.
On December 5, Councilwoman Valerie M. Cartright joined revelers young and old at the Port Jefferson Station-Terryville (PJST) Train Car on the corner of Route 347 and Route 112 to celebrate the holiday season. The event was hosted by the PJST Chamber of Commerce and PJST Civic Association. The highlight of the evening was a visit by Santa Claus who sat in the Terryville Fire Department’s antique fire engine and collected letters from the excited children in attendance. There was also a drop-off location for the Town of Brookhaven Youth Bureau INTERFACE Toy Drive and for St Gerard's Food Pantry. Councilwoman Cartright also handed out hand sanitizer and candy canes to the children and parents.
Councilwoman Cartright said, "COVID has made it necessary for us to adjust to enjoy the holiday season differently this year. Thank you to the Port Jefferson Station-Terryville Chamber for finding a creative solution to continue this traditional celebration in our community safely!"
