The well-being of Suffolk County Police Department officers is paramount--and that isn't limited to the men and women on the force--it also includes our four-legged canine officers.
The SCPD Medical Crisis Action Team (MedCAT) and Canine Section officers visited the East End Veterinary Center in Riverhead last week to learn how to care for canines from our Canine Section if they get injured in the line of duty. Veterinarians and veterinary technicians taught the MedCat team multiple procedures including how to treat heat exhaustion, and how to perform CPR on a dog.
It is our hope this training will never have to be put to use, but we are confident in our officers in the event of an emergency.
