Suffolk County Health - The Longer a Tick is Attached, the Greater the Risk of Disease

The longer a tick is attached, the greater the risk of disease. To remove a tick, use fine-point tweezers and grasp the tick where its mouthparts enter the skin. Pull it straight out. Do not twist or squeeze the tick’s body. Avoid using dish soap, petroleum jelly, gasoline, lit matches, or oils. https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/removing_a_tick.html
